Construction Equipment Bids For Gravel Haul And Day Labour Use

All owners of construction equipment wishing to submit bids for positions on all day labor lists and gravel haul for the following equipment are requested to pick up a bid sheet and corresponding requirements from the Saddle Hills County Office or Field Operations Shop:

Crawlers, graders, packers, buggies, hoes, trucks in combination with trailers (Gravel Trucks), steamers, pups or wagons, etc.

Saddle Hills County Dust Control 2012

Saddle Hills County is pleased to provide Calcium Chloride as a dust abatement agent on roads in 2012. The standard fee is $7.50 per linear metre. However, the County will share a percentage of the cost with residents who request dust control. The cost-sharing percentages are outlined below.  

Residents on Collector and Local Roads shall pay 75% of the first 100 metres and Saddle Hills County will pay the remaining 25%.  The resident shall pay the full cost of any additional length over the first 100m at the standard unit price per linear metre established above.

Residents on Arterial Roads must apply for a minimum of 200 metres of dust control. The  resident shall pay 50% of the first 100 metres and Saddle Hills County will pay the remaining 50% as well as the entire cost for the second 100 metres. The resident may also apply for up to an additional 200 metres at the 50% cost-shared rate. Residents applying for distances greater than 400 metres shall pay the full cost for the distance over 400 metres.

Residents on Secondary Highways must apply for a minimum of 350 metres of dust control. The resident shall pay 50% of the first 100 metres and Saddle Hills County will pay the remaining 50% as well as the entire cost for the second 250 metres. The resident may also apply for up to an additional 100 metres at the 50% cost-shared rate. Residents applying for distances greater than 450 metres shall pay the full cost at the standard rate established above.

Applications must be received no later than 4:00 p.m., April 27, 2012.

Construction Projects Manager

Saddle Hills County is looking to fill the position of Construction Projects Manager. Reporting to the Director of Engineering & Public Works, the Construction Projects Manager is responsible for the management and administration of all engineering and contract construction. This encompasses the design and construction activities required for the development or improvement of roadways, bridges, subdivisions, water/drainage, and municipal utilities.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Road Building/Civil Engineering experience
  • Alberta Class 5 drivers license
  • Experience in the planning, design and/or construction of civil engineering projects (roadways, drainage) including some time in a management role.
  • Registered/working towards P.Eng or C.E.T designation would be an asset

The salary will commensurate with experience and will be accompanied by an excellent benefit package and pension plan. Resumes will be accepted until a suitable candidate is found. Thank you for your interest. However, only those applicants selected will be contacted.

Fireworks Permits are Required

Permit are required for the “Purchase, Possession and Discharge” of fireworks within Saddle Hills County in accordance with the Alberta Fire Code 2006

Outside of the Forest Protection Area (FPA)

Permits to purchase, possess and discharge low hazard fireworks will be available from Saddle Hills County Administration Office during normal business hours 780-864-3760


Within the Forest Protection Area (FPA)

  • During “fire season” (normally Apr. 1 – Oct. 31) Permits to possess and discharge fireworks must be obtained from Alberta Sustainable Resource Development (SRD) 780-538-5560.
  • Outside of “fire season” (normally Nov. 1 – March 31) Permits must be obtained from Saddle Hills County.

Vendors will have copies of the “Permit to Purchase” to accommodate sale to persons with a permit from SRD or another municipality.
