Parks & Camping Opportunities

Saddle Hills County is home to a number of excellent opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts. Each year we welcome visitors from across Canada and around the world who come to enjoy the wilderness as it was meant to be enjoyed.

Facilities and Services

  1. Sport Fishing - Stocking of rainbow trout provides good fishing.

  2. Camping - 110 campsites with electrical hook ups, and a large group use area. Winter camping opportunities.

  3. Swimming - Traditionally local people have used Moonshine Lake for swimming. There is a developed beach area.

  4. Boating - Gas powered boats are not allowed on the lake.

  5. Hiking - Hiking opportunities abound.

  6. Day Use - The day use area includes a beach, playground, a large open area. 

  7. Interpretation Programs - For special events, long weekends, and on request from school groups the park staff will typically offer an interpretative service, such as a nature walk.

  8. Cross-Country Skiing - Novice to intermediate trails.

  9. Ice Fishing - Fishing is also popular during the winter months.

  10. Skating - Lighted outdoor skating rink with an adjacent shelter and fire pit.

  11. Jack Bird Pond – Jack Bird Pond has two bird viewing platforms connected by an interpretative trail. The trails in both areas provide good opportunities to view nature, and both are Watchable Wildlife areas. The Trumpeter Swan is known to nest on Jack Bird Pond.

Facilities and Services

  1. Campsites - Approx. 20 overnight stalls complete with fire pits, camping area/parking area and picnic tables.

  2. Day Use Area - Picnic area is proposed for day use activities only.

  3. Shelter Facilities - Sheltered group gathering area with fire pit, washroom and shower.

Facilities and Services:

  1. Campsite – There are approximately 10 overnight stalls complete with fire pits, camping area, parking and picnic tables.

  2. Day Use Area – There are picnic tables just before the playground area and horseshoe pit. This area is for day use activities only.

  3. Shelter Facilities – The site currently offers a sheltered group gathering area. This shelter offers picnic tables with an exterior fire pit nearby.

  4. Boating – The lake offers a sandy beach area for swimming. Canoes and non motorized boats are authorized for use on the calm waters.

Hilltop Lake offers:

  1. Hand water pump (non-potable water source)

  2. Outdoor washroom facilities

  3. No user fees for camping

  4. Free fire wood

  1. Campsite – Approximately 30 overnight stalls with fire pits, camping space, parking and picnic tables.

  2. Day Use Area – Picnic tables, fish cleaning station, and a small beach.

  3. Shelter Facilities – Sheltered group gathering area with picnic tables and a nearby exterior fire pit nearby.

  4. Boating – Canoes and non motorized boats.

  5. Sport Fishing - Annual stocking of rainbow trout and Brookies provide good fishing.

Chinook Valley Golf Course

Chinook Valley Golf Course is a challenging 9 hole course in northern Alberta offering the amenities and quality the discriminating golfer expects. Anyone who loves golf will appreciate the beautiful fairways and lush greens. Suitable for all ages and levels of play. Chinook Valley has many annual tournaments and can host group golf outings. The course size, the clubhouse facility & number of power cart rentals make Chinook an excellent choice for your company tourney or fun event. There are multiple campsites to allow you to enjoy your stay.
