Council Welcomes Capital Grant Recipients

Representatives from local community organizations who received funding as part of the 2024 Capital Grant Program, were present at the Council Meeting on March 12, 2024 to speak about their projects.

The Blueberry Mountain Goodwill Society was awarded $178,338.60 towards the construction of a new playground, with additional contributions to come from the organizations own fundraising efforts, such as casino nights, bingo, dine and dance etc. Kassondra Hickman and Danielle Konstapel were presented their cheque by Willis Fitzsimmons, the Councillor for their ward. 

The Bonanza & District Agricultural Society was awarded $75,177 to complete renovation and construction work, such as placing the beer garden floors, a new pole shed, and renovation of the ATCO bathroom. Michael Deakin Macey was present, who has been assisting with the work at the facility. He was presented with the cheque by Reeve Alvin Hubert, ward Councillor, and Councillor Danny Roy.

The Fourth Creek Community Association was awarded $22,425.15 under this year's program. Carrie Yanishewski was present from the Association to be presented with their cheque by ward Councillor Ed Armagost. The funds will be used to fence the paved sports court, install an equipment storage shed, purchase equipment for hockey and volleyball/badminton, and paint lines on the court. 

The Happy Valley Ag & Recreation Club received $89,873.80 to conduct improvements to the picnic pavilion, fence the perimeter of the playground, add new bleachers and sand to the riding arena, and purchase a four wheeled ATV for maintenance. Karalee Bahm and son, Royce were at the meeting to be presented with the cheque by ward Councillor Gerry Richard on behalf of the society. 

The Savanna Agricultural Society was awarded $177,263.10 in funding to complete the construction of a playground adjacent to the Savanna Splash Park. Reeve Alvin Hubert presented the cheque to Deputy Reeve Kristen Smith and Councillor Ed Armagost, and Carrie Yanishewski on behalf of the society, along with Karalee and son, Royce.

The Woking Multiplex Association was awarded two grants, totaling $93,769.50, to complete heating upgrades at the facility, along with the conversion of a series of rooms into a fitness centre and initial fitness equipment. April Thomi and Jennifer Van Rootselaar were presented with the cheque by ward Councillor Don Hoffart on behalf of the association.
