Fire Restriction in Effect

Effective as of 3:30 p.m. on May 17, 2024, Saddle Hills County has downgraded the FIRE BAN to a FIRE RESTRICTION, which means campfires and other small fires will be allowed in approved fire pits, burn barrels, and enclosures. This only applies to areas outside of the Forest Protection Area.

The FIRE BAN by Alberta Forestry for the Grande Prairie Forest Protection Area remains in place over the long weekend. This means campfires are not allowed in the Forest Protection Area, which includes Cotillion, Hilltop, and Spring Lake Campgrounds. www.albertafirebans.ca

Alberta Parks is also maintaining their FIRE BAN over the weekend, so campfires will not be permitted at Moonshine Lake Provincial Park and Dunvegan Provincial Park. www.albertaparks.ca/albertaparksca/advisories-public-safety/fire-bans

There is no ATV ban at this time.

STARS Annual Update

Glenda Farnden, Senior Municipal Relations Liaison with STARS, was present at the October 10, 2023 Council Meeting to provide an annual update on the recent activity of the organization. This included the implementation of a new fleet, new innovation and technology, mission statistics, and other information pertinent to County residents.

2023 saw a total of five patients flown by STARS from within Saddle Hills County, 1 from Bonanza, 2 from Gordondale, and 2 from Woking. From 2010 to present 42 patients have been flown from within Saddle Hills County's borders.

The County has partnered with STARS for many years and has pledged to sponsor $200,000 per year for 2022-2025, in addition to $100,000 per year from 2020-2024 for fleet renewal.
