CFIA Pauses Traceability Regulation Amendments

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a statement on January 10, 2026, announcing it is pausing the advancement of proposed amendments to Part XV (Traceability) of the Health of Animals Regulations following public discussion and stakeholder concerns.

CFIA confirmed that the proposed amendments are not currently in effect and have not been finalized. The Agency has been consulting with industry representatives, agricultural associations, and governments throughout the development process and stated that engagement will continue.

According to CFIA, publication of the proposed regulations will be paused to allow for greater understanding of the proposed changes and to ensure that concerns raised by stakeholders are heard and taken into consideration before moving forward.

CFIA emphasized that no regulatory changes have been implemented at this time and that further consultation will take place before any amendments are finalized.
