Have Your Say on Rural Speed Limits

Alberta’s government is seeking input from residents on a proposal to increase speed limits on rural highways. Starting November 7, Albertans can participate in an online survey running until December 12 to share their views on modernizing speed limits on divided highways.

The survey will ask residents for their opinions on raising the speed limit by 10 km/h, from 110 km/h to 120 km/h, on various highways. Participants will also be able to provide feedback on which highways should be prioritized for speed limit increases, their views on restricting commercial trucks from using the far-left lane on highways with three or more lanes, and any other suggestions to improve driving experiences on provincial highways.

Following the survey, the government plans to conduct a trial of a 120 km/h speed limit to assess the impacts of higher speeds on divided highways. The trial will include extensive monitoring to evaluate driving behaviour and safety.

Albertans are encouraged to participate and have their say in shaping the future of highway travel in the province.
