New Alberta Early Childhood Education Bursary
The Governments of Canada and Alberta are investing $3.3 million through the Canada-Alberta Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement to launch a new Early Childhood Educator Bursary program, aimed at growing Alberta’s skilled early childhood educator (ECE) workforce.
Early childhood educators are vital to delivering high-quality, safe child care across the province. This new bursary will support up to 300 aspiring ECEs, helping them launch rewarding careers in early learning and child care.
The new bursary program offers a one-time award of $10,000 to eligible students, over the next three years. These funds are intended to help cover the cost of tuition, books, and some living expenses for those enrolled in approved early learning and child-care certificate programs, at 20 participating Alberta post-secondary institutions.
Each $10,000 bursary will be distributed in two instalments:
-
$5,000 upon acceptance into an approved program.
-
$5,000 after completing the program, gaining Level 2 certification, and starting work in a licenced child-care setting.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen Alberta’s child-care system by attracting and supporting the next generation of early childhood educators.
