Prairie Pest Monitoring Network's July 8th, 2026 update
The Prairie Pest Monitoring Network's July 8th, 2026 update advises producers to continue monitoring crops as insect activity increases across the Prairies. Grasshopper development continues to advance, while cabbage seedpod weevil remains active in many canola-growing regions, making regular scouting important as crops flower. Wheat midge emergence is progressing, with adult activity expected to increase where moisture conditions have been favourable. Bertha armyworm moth trapping is ongoing, and diamondback moth, aphids, and other crop pests should also be monitored as populations can vary by location. Producers are encouraged to rely on field scouting and economic thresholds before considering control measures and to use the Prairie Pest Monitoring Network's live monitoring maps to help guide management decisions.
