Think Before you Flush

Myth: If it says "flushable," it's safe to flush.

Fact: Many flushable wipes do not break down like toilet paper. Instead of dissolving quickly in water, they often remain intact as they travel through sewer pipes. Over time, these wipes can catch on rough spots in pipes, become tangled in pumps, and combine with grease and other debris to create stubborn blockages.
While a single wipe may not seem like a problem, thousands of wipes flushed over time can result in equipment damage, sewer backups, increased maintenance, and costly repairs.

The safest rule is simple: Only flush human waste and toilet paper. Everything else—including flushable wipes, baby wipes, cleaning wipes, facial tissues, paper towels, feminine hygiene products, cotton swabs, dental floss, and similar items—belongs in the garbage.
