'Through the Generations: Then and Now' - Winners of the 2025 Photo Contest Announced

The winners of the 2025 'Through the Generations: Then & Now' Photo Contest were announced at the annual Christmas in the County event, held on December 4, 2025, at the County Administration Building.

This year, alongside their submissions, participants were asked to provide insight into how their images reflected the theme.

Each of the winners received a cheque and certificate and will have their images featured online, in the County calendar, and in various other publications. The overall winner also received a framed copy of the winning image and is invited to participate as a judge during next year's contest.

"This photo showcases a 1969 John Deere 4020 Tractor, with an absolutely stunning display of northern lights in the background. An old piece of machinery that the generations before us used, and that we still rely on today."

"This photo shows a young girl gentling some Jersey calves. Immersing the next generation in agriculture and finding the beauty in it is the key to keeping small farms alive and continuing for years to come in northern Alberta."

"Milking cows by hand was a chore many of our grandparents did on their farms, and still in 2025, we milk cows for our family. A skill not forgotten after all this time, even with milk readily available in grocery stores."

"My children are the upcoming generation. We love farming in the Peace Country. Teaching my children to love work and love the place we live. Hopefully the land we bought from the older generation and wonderful neighbours can be passed on in years to come. Thankful for such a nice County."

"Broken Travel: This part of a wagon has been sitting on our farm since we moved here. I would think its been here since the Nagel's owned the land over 15 years ago now. We felt it needed to stay, as just because it's broken doesn't mean it's not meaningful."

"The photo of the truck displays the vintage pickup beside a modern field."
