Peace Officer Report - September, 2025
The County currently has one Peace Officer on staff, Wayne Olson, working approximately 40 hours a week. This time is divided into shifts, weekday and weekend, daytime and evening, and is split between the office and the seven wards.
Our Peace Officer's duties centre around education and bylaw enforcement, they do not enforce criminal code violations. Criminal code violations include things such as theft, break and enter, domestic abuse, assault, and drug offences, among other more serious crimes such as homicide.
During September, Wayne's work was focused mainly on highways and in school zones, as well as in areas where issues has been reported, either by staff or members of the community, and campground monitoring.
Over the course of the month, Wayne stopped 10 drivers for speeding, seven of which were going over the posted 100 km/h limit, one of which was going over the posted 50 km/h limit, and two in school zones. Of those stopped for speeding, one did not have a valid insurance card, one did not have proper proof of vehicle registration, and two did not have any proof of their driver's licence.
September also saw Wayne investigate reports of suspicious activity on County property (trespassing) as well as more time in school zones to remind drivers that school was back in session.
During September, Wayne worked a total of 178.5 hours, the majority of which was spent on patrol, with the remainder spent completing administrative work and training. This total also includes 1 hour of investigative work.
