UPDATE #4: Blueberry Mountain Wildfire (GWF028)

Wildfire GWF028, located in the Blueberry Mountain area, is still classified as Out of Control, and estimated to be 2,700 ha in size. Late last night, the fire spread east, across the boundary of Moonshine Lake Provincial Park. Firefighters with the Savanna Fire Department built a Dozer guard to help protect the park. This is currently being maintained with a Nodwell, and crews remain ready to provide structure protection should the fire jump the guard. A second Nodwell is also enroute.

Over the course of the afternoon and early evening today, the fire has also spread west, crossing Range Road 95 (Silver Valley Road). Fire crews are continuing to monitor the fire and working to keep it from spreading further. Thanks to the dedicated work of crews onsite, the fire has not currently crossed Township Road 794 to the south.

Range Road 95 is now closed to the public and road blocks are also being manned at other entry points into the fire zone. Highway 725 remains open, but the public is advised to use alternative routes wherever possible to allow crews to work uninterrupted.

As a result of the increase in fire activity, the Evacuation Order has been expanded to include all those located between Township Road 804 and Highway 49, and Range Road 100 and Range Road 95. The previous Emergency Order and Alerts remain in place.

The Evacuation Centre, located the Blueberry Mountain Hall, is open to evacuees, should they require support. If you are evacuating and require assistance or further information, please contact us, at (780) 864-2031.

Further information will be provided, as available.
