With approximately 50 mm of precipitation received over the weekend there has been little to no fire growth since Friday morning. The Hamelin Creek Wildfire (GWF028) is still considered to be Out of Control at approximately 5,500 ha, but is not anticipated to grow over the next several burning periods. However, Saddle Hills County will be extending the State of Local Emergency, as there are still areas under Evacuation Order. It should be noted that there are no residences located in this area.
Crews continue to work on the fire, maintaining and building dozer guards, including wildfire crews, heavy equipment and aircraft, when available.
Range Road 95 remains closed between Township Road 810 and Township Road 794, and should be used for local access only. Moonshine Lake Provincial Park also remains closed.
ATCO is proactively working on clearing burned trees away from the powerline located along Range Road 95, and repairing any damaged lines.
The fire poses no immediate poses no immediate threat to residents or structures, at this time, although the Evacuation Alert remains in place and residents should be ready to leave on short notice, if required.
Thank you to the Alberta Wildfire and Saddle Hills County Volunteer Fire Departments, including Blueberry Mountain, Savanna, and Happy Valley, who have dedicated countless hours working on this fire.
Further updates will be provided, as available, and should changes be reported.
