Assessment Inspections Continue for 2024

Saddle Hills County’s Assessment Department assesses in accordance with Provincial legislation, regulations, and guidelines.

We would like to remind our ratepayers we will be continuing our re-inspection and annual inspection cycle, from March 1 to December 31, 2024.

Assessors will have County ID on them and will be in a marked Saddle Hills County vehicle. Please don’t hesitate to talk to them and ask questions if you see them around the County.

You can reach the department during regular office hours at the Saddle Hills County Admin Building, or via the Assessment Direct line at (780) 506-0101. We also have the answers to some Frequently Asked Questions available for landowners to review.

Property Values in Saddle Hills County

The Assessment Department would like to make ratepayers aware that property sales over the last 3 years show an increase in property values, which will be reflected in most assessments.

New construction, upgrades, an increase in subdivisions, and farmland have seen growth in new cultivation and cleared land which also contributes to ‘Market Values’ increasing.

If you see an increase on your combined 2024 Assessment and Tax Notice please look at the values from your Assessment. Please consider if the assessment reflects a mid-range value as of July 1 of the previous year.

  • Would you have considered selling your property then for the assessed value?
  • If you just purchased this land, does it reflect your current purchase price?
  • Have you put your property up for sale and, if so, is this near the asking price?

If the answer is ‘yes’, or ‘maybe’ to any of the above, then the assessment is probably reasonable.

If the answer is ‘definitely no’, and you are not a farmer with exemptions, or are a farmer with exemptions and need to know more, please speak to an Assessor.

The Assessment Department does their best to reach out to ratepayers when the assessed value has increased and may have additional tax payable, estimated over $500 at current Municipal Tax Rates. Please note that the Assessment Department is only responsible for property values and not the amount of tax payable.

To contact Assessment, please call (780) 506-0101 or email assessment@saddlehills.ab.ca
