  • Moisture Updates - August 31, 2023

    Since the last report on August 23, 2023, rainfall has been highly variable, ranging from none across much of the northern and north-western Peace Region and throughout most of east-half of the Central and Southern Regions, to well over 20 mm along the western portions of the central and Southern Regions.  These areas have been dry and this is much needed moisture for struggling hay and pasture lands.  Notably, parts of the North West Region received less than 5 mm, which was welcome given the wet conditions that have persisted over the past few months.

  • 2023 Highway Clean-up in Numbers

    This summer, four of our amazing community organizations cleaned a total of 61.4km of County highways as part of our annual Highway Clean-up program.

  • Reminder: Ditching Permits Required

    A friendly reminder that permits are required for any work carried out in County ditches and Rights-of-Way.

    It is the responsibility of the landowner to contact the County prior to any proposed work.

  • 2023 Volunteer Appreciation BBQ

    It was a beautiful day at Moonshine Lake Provincial Park last Thursday, August 24, for the annual Saddle Hills County Volunteer Appreciation BBQ. Volunteers, their family and supporters, and members of the community came out to share in a delicious steak supper, provided by Alberts Catering, and hear of the accomplishments and kind words said about this years nominated volunteers.

  • Assessment for Small and Home Based Businesses Explained

    Assessment in Alberta is conducted in accordance with legislation and regulations set out in the Municipal Government Act of Alberta.

    Assessment is defined by Municipal Affairs as the process of assigning a dollar value to a property. This value is then used to calculate the amount of taxes payable.

    Taxation is the process of applying the tax rate (or mill rate) to a property's assessed value. This determines the taxes payable.

  • Moisture Updates - August 23, 2023

    Since the last report on August 16, 2023, rains have continued throughout a large swath of the North West, North East and Eastern Peace Regions with many lands receiving well over 40 mm in recent days, and in some areas ranging to well over 80 mm. Elsewhere along the foothills and extending eastward into the Central and Southern Regions and along the USA border, upwards of 20 mm fell on moisture stressed lands. Unfortunately dry conditions prevailed elsewhere, with less than 10mm falling across wide swaths of land though parts of the Central, Southern and Peace Regions.
