Our County is a farming community at heart, and we take pride in helping our residents succeed in all their hard work. Our Ag Department helps our farmers by controlling weeds and pests, giving advice and resources, and maintaining the health of our land and waters here in the County.

Each summer, we hire our seasonal Weed and Pest Inspectors, giving young people in the County an opportunity to learn while giving back to their communities.

Our Rural Development team are:

Dessa Nicholson, Agricultural Coordinator

Dessa grew up on a cattle and sheep farm in rural Nova Scotia. After graduating from Dalhousie University with a degree in Agriculture in 2014 she moved to Alberta to pursue Agriculture working as a sales representative for Cargill. In 2017, she started working at Saddle Hills County as the Ag Fieldman. As a resident of the County herself, Dessa is deeply invested in ensuring that our communities are healthy and prosperous.


Riley Nooy, Agricultural Foreman

Riley was raised right here in the County, and has been involved in the local community his whole life. After graduating from Olds College with a diploma in Agricultural Management he was the Agricultural Fieldman at the M.D of Spirit River for 2 years. Riley began working at the County in May of 2019. He was born and raised in Agriculture and continues to be heavily involved on the family farm in Fourth Creek.
