AFSC Strengthens Support for Alberta Producers in 2026

Agriculture Financial Services (AFSC) is enhancing its programs for 2026 to better support Alberta’s farmers and ranchers as they manage risk and plan for the future.

AFSC offers a range of services including crop insurance, income stabilization, lending, and Livestock Price Insurance. For the upcoming year, several updates have been introduced to reflect the evolving needs of today’s agricultural sector.

Changes to Crop Insurance include a new application deadline for Bee Overwintering Insurance, adjustments to weather station moisture normals to better align with sustainable practices, improved alignment between irrigated and dryland hay coverage, and the transition of bear damage to hives from a pilot initiative into a permanent program.

Updates to AgriStability aim to improve responsiveness for livestock producers. Pasture rental costs will now be recognized as an allowable expense in both current and historical margins, helping ensure feeding costs are more accurately reflected.

AFSC is also continuing to enhance its lending programs for producers and agribusinesses. Improvements in 2026 are focused on reducing turnaround times, accelerating access to capital, and improving overall client experience, particularly for new and returning entrants to farming.

These updates are designed to provide Alberta producers with stronger, more responsive tools to manage risk and build resilient operations in a changing agricultural landscape.
