Be Prepared: Power Outages
Summer hazards such as high winds, summer storms, floods, and extreme heat can lead to power outages. #BePrepared by:
- Practicing power conservation. For example, use fans instead of indoor cooling or heating to circulate air.
- Gathering supplies such as a charged power bank and cords, batteries, no-cook meals, stored or bottled water, flashlights, and other essentials that may be useful during a power outage.
- Keeping a checklist of tasks to do before and after an outage, such as unplugging appliances and electronics to prevent damage when the power is restored.
There are many steps we can take to prepare for power outages and other hazards, including knowing what to do during and after an event. Learn how you and your loved ones can build resilience before, during, and after an emergency with Be Prepared programming and resources.
