Be Prepared: Summer Storms

It's that time of year when summer storms sweep through Alberta.

Thunderstorms, lightning, heavy rain and hail can develop quickly, threatening life and property. Be Prepared for summer storms by:

  • Protecting Your Property: Check drainage around your home to reduce the risk of basement flooding, secure loose outdoor items in case of strong winds and cover your vehicle to prevent hail damage.
  • Going Indoors When You Hear Thunder: Stay away from windows, glass doors, and skylights during a hailstorm.
  • Staying informed on storm conditions by monitoring local news and weather reports. Be prepared to shelter in place if advised.

Summer storms can be unpredictable, but knowing your risk to hazards in your community allows you and your loved ones to make a plan for them. Learn more on how you can prepare for hazards with Be Prepared resources and programming.
