Upcoming Deadline for Drought Livestock Assistance Program

The deadline for the 2023 Canada-Alberta Drought Livestock Assistance Program is fast approaching.

The initiative was created to compensate Alberta's livestock producers for the extraordinary costs incurred due to drought and extreme high temperatures in 2023. It aims to support the management and maintenance of Alberta's breeding animals.

Eligible producers can apply for a feed assistance payment for expenses incurred between June 1, 2023, and March 31, 2024. You can apply online through AFSC Connect, allowing for faster processing.

Applications opened on October 30, 2023, and the deadline for submissions is January 15, 2024. In an effort to get money in the hands of producers, the model aims to enable an inclusive program that does not favour a single management practice. The model indicates a need that may filled by an expense that has not yet been incurred at the time of application and acknowledges the already burdensome workload that producers are facing to maintain their breeding herds.
