Peace Officer Report - July, 2025
The County currently has one Peace Officer on staff, Wayne Olson, working approximately 40 hours a week. This time is divided into shifts, weekday and weekend, daytime and evening, and is split between the office and the seven wards.
Our Peace Officer's duties centre around education and bylaw enforcement, they do not enforce criminal code violations. Criminal code violations include things such as theft, break and enter, domestic abuse, assault, and drug offences, among other more serious crimes such as homicide.
During July, Wayne's work was focused mainly on highways and in areas where issues has been reported, either by staff or members of the community, as well as monitoring the County's campgrounds.
Over the course of the month, Wayne stopped 11 drivers for speeding. Eight of those stopped were going over the posted 100 km/h limit, one was going over the 80 km/h limit, one was going over the 50 km/h limit, and one was going over the 30 km/h limit.
Of those stopped for speeding, two did not have proper proof of a Driver's Licence on them, two did not have proper proof of registration, and three did not have a valid insurance card.
Wayne was also present at the Bonanza Mud Bog and Truck Pulls for both days to help educate the community. Children present were able to check out his patrol vehicle and equipment, and, most importantly, play with the sirens!
During July, Wayne worked a total of 178.5 hours, the majority of which was spent completing administrative work, training, and patrols. This total also includes 10.5 hours of investigative work and 0.5 hours assisting with fire response duties.
2025 Peace Officer Stats. to Date
Overall, those stopped for speeding ranged from 19 km/h over the posted limit to 56 km/h over the posted limit. The average speed over the posted limit for 2025 to date, is 22-25 km/h.
